Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) is a powerful, effective medication, but it is not safe or suitable for everyone.
It is a prescription-only medication that requires a thorough health assessment by an IMC-registered doctor. Your safety is the number one priority.
There are several specific groups who cannot take Mounjaro. These are known as contraindications. If you're wondering about eligibility, you might also want to read our post on am I eligible for Mounjaro in Ireland?
Absolute Contraindications (You Must Not Take Mounjaro)
You cannot be prescribed Mounjaro if you have:
- A personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC): This is a rare type of thyroid cancer.
- A history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2): This is a rare genetic condition that causes tumours.
- A known severe allergy to Tirzepatide or any of the other ingredients in the injection.
- Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: Mounjaro must not be used if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Other Cautions and Warnings (Your Doctor Must Assess)
There are other situations where a doctor will be extremely cautious or may decide the medication is not right for you.
It is vital you tell your doctor if you have a history of:
- Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas. Mounjaro has been associated with pancreatitis, so a previous history is a significant concern.
- Severe Gastrointestinal Issues: Such as gastroparesis (slowed stomach emptying), as the medication's mechanism could worsen this.
- Diabetic Retinopathy: A specific type of eye damage from diabetes.
- Kidney Problems: Severe vomiting or diarrhoea from the medication can lead to dehydration and worsen kidney function.
The Bua Health Safety-First Approach
This is why you can't simply "buy" Mounjaro online. It requires a full medical review.
At Bua Health, our clinical partners MedicOnline are committed to the highest standards of patient safety.
Our online assessment process is designed to thoroughly screen for every one of these contraindications and risk factors. An IMC-registered doctor personally reviews your entire medical history before ever issuing a prescription. This comprehensive, doctor-led process ensures that a treatment is not just effective, but clinically safe and appropriate for you.
