Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) is a powerful, effective medication, but it is not safe or suitable for everyone.

Absolute Contraindications (You Must Not Take Mounjaro)

You cannot be prescribed Mounjaro if you have:

• A personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC): This is a rare type of thyroid cancer.
• A history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2): This is a rare genetic condition that causes tumours.
• A known severe allergy to Tirzepatide or any of the other ingredients in the injection.
• Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: Mounjaro must not be used if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Other Cautions and Warnings (Your Doctor Must Assess)

There are other situations where a doctor will be extremely cautious or may decide the medication is not right for you.

It is vital you tell your doctor if you have a history of:

• Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas. Mounjaro has been associated with pancreatitis, so a previous history is a significant concern.
• Severe Gastrointestinal Issues: Such as gastroparesis (slowed stomach emptying), as the medication's mechanism could worsen this.
• Diabetic Retinopathy: A specific type of eye damage from diabetes.
• Kidney Problems: Severe vomiting or diarrhoea from the medication can lead to dehydration and worsen kidney function.
